So today was all about sight seeing and getting to know my host family! The day started off bright and early (the usual) at YFHS. We all met up at the high school, got super cute shirts, and got on a TWO STORY tour bus to go to Taipai. The ride there was seriously one of the best parts of today! We quickly learned that Taiwanese people ADORE karaoke, so we all sang on the ride to Number One on our sight seeing list, The Palace Museum. The Palace was simple amazing, I don't think I've ever seen anthing like it in my life. Our tour guide (a FREAKISHLY smart man) taught us all about Chineses Dynasties and prehistoric times. We got to see the "Mona Lisa" of ancient Chinese pottery the "Mao Gong Ding" along with other beautiful carvings that simply blew my mind away. Since I took WHAP last year I was able to make connection which made the tour that much more interesting and entertaining. The only downer was that we weren't allowed to take pictures! Anyways, after the tour ended we went to lunch at this adorable little restaurant. I have never tried so many new things in my life!!! Luckly my new adventure buddy, Kathleen, was right next to me trying all of the new things with me. Once we were done with lunch, the delegation decided to go out and explore. We didn't go anywhere but we took super cute pictures (some random people took pictures of us which was kind of creepy...) and took off to see Taipai 101. We were afraid we were not going to be able to see anything because of it was very cloudy but we all hoped for the best, rode the fastest elevator in the world, and went to the top of Taipai 101. IT WAS AWESOME. We were surrounded by clouds and the sight was just beautiful. When we were done with 101 we took a quick trip to a memorial for the first president of Taiwan. The memorial is surrounded by one of the most gorgeous gardens I have seen in my life. Trees and flowers EVERYWHERE! The memorial it pretty much like the Lincoln Memorial except its white and has special guards. There was a guard change while we were there (the guards change every two hours because during that time period that are not allowed to move or BLINK... crazy huh?). It was super duper cool.
When we got home I was finally able to give my host family their presents. They loved them (YAY!) and in return they gave me some presents too. After present time I was informed that we would all be going out dinner with Mimi's boyfriend! I was SUPER excited to meet him. At first he was very shy, but by the end of the night we were all joking around and having fun. I tried another new dish (shocker!) called Beef Noddles. OH MY FREAKING GOSH, best thing I have had during my stay so far. It was DELICIOUS! I am very thankful for tonight because not only did I get to try new things and explore town, but I got to get closer with my Taiwanese family.
