Today was nice because I didn't have to get up until 7am and got about 9 hours of sleep, though the jet lag is still affecting me. We left the house and wen't back to Yung-Feng Senior High School to meet up with the others and go to the Palace Museum. We took a bus to the museum that had seating on the second floor, I loved riding in it! When we arrived we met our tour guide, he made the tour a blast! I learned so much about Chinese history. He showed us the "Mona Lisa" of Chinese history, it is called Mao Gong Ding, it was beautiful! At the end of the tour I went and got a picture with our hilarious tour guide! Everyone had a blast and learned some interesting facts about the history of China. Then we walked over to eat lunch at a nearby resteraunt. We had to share each course with the person sitting next to us, so I guess I'm glad to be close everyone in the group! Some of the stuff we ate was delicious like the soup with noodles, fried squid, and sausage, but I didn't love everything I tried!
After the museum we toook the bus to Taipae 101, the second tallest building in the world!! We went up 89 stories in the fastest elevator, but couldn't go the whole way because the rainy weather. It happens to rain a lot in Taiwan, well at least the whole time we have been here. The views at the top were amazing! You could see over the whole city. Then we started toward the zoo. The whole day on the bus we sang karaoke from place to place that was sometimes not all that pretty, but kept everyone a laughing and having a good time!
We didn't get to make it to the zoo due to lack of time, instead we made our way to the memory garden building where we looked around the BEAUTIFUL gardens and took pictures. The memorial is of the first president of China. We went inside the memorial, which looked a lot like the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, and got to witness the changing of the guards. While they are "on stand" they have to be completly still till they are rotated, which is 1-2 hours. Then we got back on the bus to go home with our host families.
We got dropped off the bus and went to a nearby 7/11 to look inside. There was some of the same snacks inside that we ahve back home, like lays and pringles. Then we got picked up by Demi's Grandfather who took took us to dinner, where we met up with Demi's two sisters. We went to a resteraunt similar to a melting pot, but with Chineese food. I ordered shrimp and beef that came with a HUGE plate of cabbage and other various vegetables of sorts. You cooked your food in a boiling broth in front of you. I had a lot of spillage due to my lack of skills with chopsticks. After dinner we went right next door to get a drink. I had a black tea that was delicious! Then we went back home for the night.
Later Demi's friend Spark, who I met at her school yesterday, came over and we played cards for a bit. It was super fun!!! I am having an unbelievable time and can't wait to see what is left to come!
