Page: First Day in Taiwan

I arrived at the airport in Taiwan last night at about 10pm. As we were all walking off the plane we were cheefully welcomed by our families with a bright sign they were holding up. My host family's dad and daughter, Demi, took me and Kathleen to their home. As we were driving I noticed the upbeat night life on the streets and all the mopeds that people were driving, swirving in and out of the cars! I still can't believe I'm in Taiwan on the other side of the earth. Once we arrived at the house we went inside and was greeted by the mom and two sisters and given a tour around the house. The house is similar to an apartment but has five floors and. Then, we went ahead and went to bed once we go settled, since we were tired from the long flight.

Today we woke up at 6am after getting to bed around 1am. I went downstairs to eat breakfast with the whole family around the table. We ate round cakes with a moist consistency and filled with a sweet butter, they were yummy! We then headed to school. The ride there was a quite scary! Everyone here drives wild! When we pulled up I had to ask if it was the school because it was so big! I walked up stairs to my classroom and was bombarded by kids wanting to meet me and take their picture with me. I went to a few of their classes and one thing I noticed to be different was the involvement of the the teachers. The students seem to have very little supervision. They run the classroom themselves besides when the teacher comes in for the lesson. They also take turns having specific jobs around the school each morning to clean it. All of the students were so welcoming and presented us with tons of gifts. The band also put on an awesome performance for us.
After school was over we took the bus to go get some dinner. The busses were packed full of people. We made our way to a Chineese resteraunt that was similar to a Japon. I had beef stir-fry that was VERY spicy, but tasty! Afterwards we went to Demi's house and sang karaoke.
So far I'm having a blasty and can't wait to see the rest of the town!(Hi mom!)
